Paintings
My artwork is primarily oil paintings based on the human psyche and my personal experiences. More recently, I decided to also dabble in creating art based on political topics such as immigration and social ideas such as the feminine standards set on women and young girls. I wanted to do this because I feel like it is my obligation, as an artist, to create commentary on what is happening in the world. My inspiration mainly draws from my personal life, but I also desire to create a shared experience where viewers can also relate to my work. Another topic I want to experiment with in my work is my Bosnian culture and Islam, as well as being a first-generation American. I created a painting titled “Crash Course in Brain Surgery” which is a self-portrait in which I am receiving a lobotomy. This painting was created to reflect how I was treated in the medical system. Additionally, I painted "145lbs" which is a self-portrait portraying weight and appearance expectations on women and girls.
